"In November 2001 Nancy Oden of the Greens /Green Party USA was denied
boarding on a plane leaving Bangor, Maine for Chicago. Across the US there
were even some GREENS who sided with the police and accused Nancy and
the
G/GPUSA of frabricating the whole story and blowing it out of
proportion.
They even accused Ms. Oden of escalating her encounter with the
authorities
at the airport. Well, the following appears in an article in today's
edition of Salon. I am reproducing it here in
its entirety because the whole text is available only to premium
subscribers and I think it's important this information gets out to as
wide
an audience as possible."

Anarchist Platform writes:

"Istanbul: Anarchists in anti-war rally

Anarchist Platform participated massively in the rally against the war on Iraq on D1 in Istanbul with all its enthusiasm. Anarchist Platform has been an effective group in the rally with its banners “Özgür Hayat” (name of the bi-weekly newspaper published by the Platform) and “Capitalism Kills In War and Peace”, breads symbolizing poverty, “For Bread, Justice and Freedom: Anarchy” placards, and black, black-red, black-green flags. There were over 200 anarchists in the beginning of the rally, and afterwards the number of the people in the Anarchist Platform group rose to 300 (which is an important number for the anarchist movement here). During the rally the slogans of the anarchists were “Capitalism Kills In War and Peace”, “No Justice No Peace!”, “No Bread No Peace!”, “For Bread, For Justice, For Freedom, Action! Revolution! Anarchy!”, “Wallet or Conscience: Don’t Be a Soldier! Don’t Obey!”, “Capitalism’s War: Gun, Bomb, and Tear! Capitalism’s Peace: Blood, Violence, and Tear”, and “Earth Commune Freedom!”. The slogans accompanied by drums were yelled by the other individuals and groups in the rally. The autonoms and the organizations forming Anarchist Platform carried their own banners. Moreover, individuals from different social backgrounds besides the students and intellectuals (anarchism before jammed into these groups of people here) participated in the Anarchist Platform. This is an important situation for the anarchist struggle here.

Assassination of Joseph Eneko,

Governor of Ituri Province

On Thursday November 21, 2002 (some reports have mentioned Friday), Joseph Eneko, his body guards and several Congolese who were traveling with him, were assassinated, near the town of Mahagi (In the Northeastern Province of Ituri in the DRCongo). As of this writing we do not have all the details regarding this barbarous act which has stripped Ituri and the entire country of a true jewel in the ethical struggle for sustained peace, integrity, reconciliation with truth, for the total and complete end of all forms of violence which daily keep our compatriots in a quasi permanent state of mourning.

The main anarchist's protest against NATO summit in Prague was
attended by around 4 000 people at the strongest moment. People
gathered on Namesti Miru square and then marched to the working class
area of Nusle under the Congress center where actual NATO summit take
place. March was joined also by a smaller one of the Eastern Europe
anarchists which started on another place.

Approx. 50 anarchists from all over Sweden gathered for the first national
meeting of Swedish Anarchist Federation (SAF) on September 22-23. The idea
behind this federation is to unite the anarchist forces in Sweden. SAF
will organise existing groups as well as individuals and everyone who
wants to start a new SAF local is very welcome. SAF has also got a mailing
list in which you can participate.

File swap nets will win, DRM and lawyers lose, say MS researchers

Posted: 21/11/2002 at 15:24 GMT

A group of Microsoft researchers, including Paul 'Mr Secure PC' England, has delivered a paper which concludes that all efforts to stop content swapping/theft - possibly even including Palladium - are in the long term futile. This message, particularly the bit that dealt with the economics of DRM-enabled versus 'clean' content, must have gone down a storm with the audience.

Which, since you ask, was the Association for Computing Machinery DRM conference.

The paper, which is currently available here, is particularly striking in that it argues its way persuasively through the history, present and future of file sharing, the success or otherwise of 'attacks' (academicspeak for 'lawyers') on it, and concludes that file sharing will triumph.
