Anonymous Comrade writes "Squat Opened July 3rd 2002 2109 Nicolet (metro Pie- IX)
A squat was opened today in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood of
Montreal to take action against Montreal's housing crisis. The squat
located at 2109 Nicolet Street represents one of the hundreds of
apartments and buildings which remain empty despite Montreals housing
crisis. The housing crisis which has put hundreds of families and
individuals on the streets, is fueled by the intense gentrification of
low-income neighborhoods and by political negligence on the part of the
City of Montreal.

GUZMAN CALLS FOR ANSWERS FROM KISSINGER

The judge presiding over the investigation into the 1973 coup death of
U.S. journalist Charles Horman, Juan Guzman, gave an ultimatum to Henry
Kissinger to answer his inquiries Friday.

Guzman asked for a writ from the president of the Chilean Supreme Court,
Mario Garrido, which gives Kissinger a fixed period to give evidence or
to face the consequences. Kissinger, who was Secretary of State under
the Nixon administration, has 40 days to answer questions about the
murder. Kissinger was first served with the request for testimony in
July 2001. Guzman has threatened to pass the request to the U.S. Supreme
Court if Kissinger fails to give evidence.

From: Center for New Community

To: Human Rights and Anti-Globalization Activists, Media

The Center for New Community has uncovered a violent neo-Nazi organization
attempting to inflitrate the anti-globalist movement. A new group calling
itself the Anti-Globalism Action Network (AGAN), has emerged to protest the
G8 meeting in Canada next week but is merely being used as a facade by the
National Alliance.

Everything in this account was observed first hand by one or more
internationals from Ireland, South Korea, U.S.A, and Sweden, as well as
by numerous Palestinian civilians.

When the Israeli military re-entered Jenin camp on June 19, 2002
one  of their first actions was to order all men between the ages of 15
and 50 out of their homes where they were removed in at least 12 military
buses. The tanks ruptured water and sewage pipes below the road in what
appeared to be a systematic effort to destroy the civilian infrastructure of the community. Soilders were observed emptying water
tanks from civilians' roofs and on one occasion giving a family's water supply
to their bomb sniffing dog to drink. After over 48 hours of total curfew many
people were left without running water and with  supplies of food,
diapers etc,  growing low.

nolympics writes "Near disaster on the Gazan riviera

On the 10th of june a group of International solidarity activists from the countries of Denmark, South Korea, Sweden, Ireland, US and France went to the Abu Holi (Fardarom in Hebrew) military checkpoint between Gaza City and Raffa in the central area of the Gaza Strip. The checkpoint is situated on the main road south in the Gaza and connects the main city with the refugee camps and other towns in the area. It is placed where the road intersects with another road constructed exclusively for the few settlers who live on a Jewish settlement nearby and is manned by a contingent of Israeli soldiers.

A federal jury in Oakland today awarded $4.4 million in damages to two Earth First organizers who were injured in a 1990 car-bomb blast, agreeing with plaintiffs' arguments that FBI agents and Oakland police violated their civil rights by focusing on them as suspects.

This is GREAT news.

Kissinger May Face Chilean Justice

The Guardian, June 12, 2002

Judge investigating US role in 1973 coup considers forcing former
secretary of state to give evidence

by Jonathan Franklin in Santiago and Duncan Campbell in Los Angeles

Henry Kissinger may face extradition proceedings in connection with
the role of the United States in the 1973 military coup in Chile. The former US secretary of state is wanted for questioning as a
witness in the investigation into the events surrounding the
overthrow of the socialist president, Salvador Allende, by General
Augusto Pinochet. It focuses on CIA involvement in the coup, whether US officials
passed lists of leftwing Americans in Chile to the military and
whether the US embassy failed to assist Americans deemed sympathetic
to the deposed government.

Louis Lingg writes "law.com has posted an article reporting that after lobbying by the Business Software Alliance, clerics at Egypt's Al Azhar in Cairo have issued a fatwa against software piracy. The edict was pronounced by Sheikh Ibrahim Atta Allah, the highest religious authority in Sunni Islam.

Ironically, muftis at Al Azhar have also been urging a boycott of American goods and services."
