A Space of Construction and Deconstruction

Interview with blicero about the experience of the LOA
Hacklab in Milan

Q.What is a hacklab? And more specifically, what is the
LOA Hacklab in Milan?

A Hacklab is a place where we try to combine the hacker attitude,
that is to say the act of understanding the functioning of complex
machines in order to deconstruct them and reconstruct
them in a non conventional manner, with the ambition
of analysing the real. A place of relations where
people, brought by a marked interest in the new forms
of electronic communication, by the digital and the
telematic, can meet to construct a different way of
understanding things and intervene in the processes
that determine reality. A Hacklab is in some way a
meeting place for the various entities and
determinations of digital antagonism.

Open letter from 'DeriveApprodi' to the European movements

derive.approdi@libero.it

--

At the beginning of November, as decided during the Porto Alegre meeting, the "European Social Forum" will convene in Florence. That Italy hosts the meeting is particularly significant, since it is here that the impetus, that began during the anti-WTO demonstrations in Seattle in November 1999, has resounded more strongly than in any other European country. The profile of the anti-capitalist movement, its modes of organisation and expression have been entirely redefined. The Genoa protests of July 2001 have not only constituted the highest point of the "global movement" in quantitative terms. They also have had concrete consequences for the history of Italian politics. Despite the reverberation of September 11th, a new movement has formed that has expressed itself at both the national and the local level, through campaigns against war, against the repression of social movements and for the rights of migrants. This has frequently resulted in the forging of new relationships with diverse political actors, such as the trade unions at the forefront of the struggle for the defence of workers’ rights, currently coming under attack from a right-wing government.

Wednesday 24th July,
After two days of peaceful and festins, actions, street theatre and
performances in Strasbourg, today police have attacked a demonstration
agains a migrant`s dtention centre in Strasbourg city centre.

Confirmed reports of heavy clashes with police are arriving at the NoBorder
Camp radio stream.

Around 700 demontrators that were taking part in a demo against a detention
centre have been attacked by riot police that used tear gas, CS spray, heavy
batton charges and snatch arrests.

Confirmed reports of about 10 people having been arrested and many others
injured.
Many people taking part in the demo tryied to get back to the camp but they
are consistently attacked by riot police.
Another smaller group is currently trapped in central Strasbourg and have
been tear gassed several times. People in the camp are currently gathering
and moving towards Strasbourg city centre to help and show solidarity to
those still trapped in the city.

The athmosphere in the camps is increasingly getting more and more tense as
people fear police eventually attacking the camp.

As we write people are arriving with tales of police brutality and calls are
been made in the camp for people to help them with water and first aid.

Louis Lingg writes "The U.S. government Citizens Corps website has posted information about the Operation TIPS (Terrorism Information and Prevention System) initiative.

Operation TIPS is a 'nationwide
program giving millions of American truckers, letter carriers, train conductors, ship captains,
utility employees, and others a formal way to report suspicious terrorist activity.' The pilot program begins this August in ten American cities.

It is anticipated that the program will eventually use a minimum of 4 per cent of Americans to report "suspicious activity". That's a higher percentage of citizen informers than was used by the infamous Stasi secret police in the former East Germany.

The Sidney Morning Herald has posted a story on this effort by the U.S. government to turn U.S. citizens into rats."

SOLIDARITY WITH USAK ANARCHISTS!

(Statement of Anarchist Black Crescent-Ankara)

On 1st of December 2001 in the meeting -- organized by (Usak) Labor Platform -- named "Meeting Against Economic Crisis" M. Ozgur Kucuktekin, S. Serkan Kazak and Onur Ayaz were taken by the police with the claim of distributing a leaflet titled as "No To War and Capitalism!" and signed as Usak Anarsist Otonomu (Usak Anarchist Autonomy). Later Rahmi Tiril and A. Serkan Tomar were also brought to Usak Security and after spending two days under psychological and physical torture 5 anarchists were forced to sign the testimonies written by the cops including the claim of 'illegal terror organization'.

Anonymous Comrade writes, "Here's an update from the New York Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition":

June 30, 2002

1. We are still waiting for a response in the US Court of Appeals to both
sides' appeals of federal Judge William Yohn's December 2001 ruling, in
which he set aside Mumia's death sentence -- though he gave the state of
Pennsylvania the option of conducting a new hearing at which Mumia could be
sentenced to death again. If that hearing is not held, and Yohn's decision
is upheld, then Mumia would serve life in prison without parole.

Louis Lingg writes "cryptome.org has posted several items regarding American scientist Steven J. Hatfill, considered a suspect in the anthrax mailings in the U.S. last fall.

At http://cryptome.org/hatfill-spd.htm is an article from the Independent Newspapers in South Africa identifying Hatfill as a sympathiser of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging, a neo-nazi outfit.

'STEVEN JAY HATFILL: Questionable (Quite Possibly Unsavory) Past – Ideal Fall-Guy for the Anthrax Incidents' by Stephen P. Dresch provides biographical and historical detail on Hatfill.

At http://cryptome.org/is-z-hatfill.htm cryptome has reposted an 'American Prospect' profile of Hatfill and a shorter piece from the NY Times on the FBI's disinterested and lethargic investigation of the anthrax mailings.

Finally, 'The Disaster Train' is the transcript of a talk Hatfill gave at the Terrorism Studies Program at George Washington University in 1998 addressing coordinated response and mass evacuation in the event of a bio-terror attack."

Overpeer Poisoning P2P on Behalf of Labels, RIAA

A stealth-mode company called OVERPEER has been flooding the p2p networks with fake Eminem files in an attempt to stop the trading of "unauthorized" mp3s. If you've encountered the "loop" files, in which a section of the chorus or hook is repeated over and over, you've been tricked by
OVERPEER.

OVERPEER are doing this with the full knowlege and consent of Interscope and Universal Music, in fact they are under contract to Universal and other
major record labels, and will be doing a LOT MORE of this type of "interdiction" in the near future.

Louis Lingg writes "On July 2, with little fanfare, George Bush signed Executive Order 13268, terminating Executive Order 13129, signed by his predecessor Bill Clinton on July 4, 1999.

Clinton's order had declared a national emergency with respect to the Taliban, and among other things, prohibited all commercial transactions with the Taliban or with persons or entities in territory controlled by the Taliban (the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan).

cryptome.org has posted Bush's Order 13268, 'Termination of Emergency With Respect to the
Taliban.' The Federation of American Scientists has posted Clinton's Order 13129, 'Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions
With the Taliban.'"
