Hanon Reznikov, Judith Malina's husband and the co-director of The Living Theatre since Julian Beck's death in 1985, passed away last night. He suffered a stroke a little more than two weeks ago, followed this week by pneumonia.

Living Theatre's Hanon Resnikov Hospitalized

The Living Theatre wants you to know that Hanon has suffered a stroke. He is currently at Beth Israel Hospital, with Judith by his side. He faces a difficult recovery with his customary tenacity.

Critical Art Ensemble's Steve Kurtz is Cleared of Mail and Wire Fraud Charges

Artist and University of Buffalo Professor Steve Kurtz was cleared of charges for mail and wire fraud today in federal court. U.S. District Judge Richard Arcara ruled that criminal charges brought against him by federal prosecutors were “insufficient on[their] face.”

South Africa Union refuses to touch Zim arms 2008-4-17 22:48 Durban - Opposition to a shipment of arms being offloaded in Durban and transported to Zimbabwe increased on Thursday when South Africa's biggest transport workers' union announced that its members would not unload the ship.

SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) general secretary Randall Howard said: "Satawu does not agree with the position of the South African government not to intervene with this shipment of weapons.

Chinese soldiers seen in Mutare

One of our activists yesterday evening received an email from a contact in Mutare, who saw and reported this:

There are some chinese army personnel staying at the Holiday Inn here in Mutare and they are moving between their hotel and the local army/police HQ.

What are they doing there? Especially at this time?

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherdstown’s Old Episcopal Church at 113 N. Church St. — arguably the oldest church in West Virginia — is now home to a group of young tenants calling it the Armed Joy Collective House.

Naming their home of two months after the 1977 anarchist pamphlet “Armed Joy” by Italian activist Alfredo M. Bonanno, the six collective house occupants hope to foster a sense of community and self-sufficiency in Shepherdstown.
