A few weeks ago, the trendy youth retailer Abercrombie & Fitch was slapped with a lawsuit alleging that the company discriminates against minority ''brand representatives'' (i.e., salespersons) who don't embody the brand's ''classic American'' look. Some may be surprised, then, to learn that the racy photos in the forthcoming ''Back to School 2003'' issue of the Abercrombie & Fitch Quarterly are garnished with running analysis from a man who hardly embodies ''classic American'' ideas: the left-wing Slovenian philosopher, cultural critic, and theoretical omnivore Slavoj Zizek.

"Pentagon Had 50 Tests of Chemical, Biological Weapons Involving Military
Personnel"

Robert Gehrke, The Associated Press, Tuesday 01 July 2003

Several House members are asking Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to
keep alive the Pentagon's investigation into 50 chemical and biological
weapons tests in the 1960s that involved 5,842 military personnel.

The Defense Department released the final findings of an
investigation into Project 112 and Project SHAD, which were
conducted from 1962 to 1973 to test the combat capabilities of
biological and chemical agents and ways to protect U.S. troops
from such attacks.

Hundreds of Call Center Jobs to be Offshored to India
and Canada

When Eric Poore began working as a customer service
representative for Microsoft's technical call-routing
center in 1997, he was told his advancement
opportunities were endless.

Two years into his Microsoft career Poore's hard work
paid off with a promotion to Outlook Technical Router,
where he managed technical questions about Microsoft?s
email program. But less than a year later, the
position was outsourced -- a handy euphemism for being
sent to India or elsewhere to cut labor costs -- and he
was demoted back to his original customer service job.

Four years after Poore lost his first position to
outsourcing, he is about to lose his six-year career
because Microsoft is in the process of a massive
relocation of Customer Central call center jobs to
India and Canada.

Employees estimate that Microsoft is planning to
eliminate at least 800 jobs in the next fiscal year at
the company's Las Colinas facility outside of Dallas,
Texas and shift the work offshore.

If this outsourcing goes as expected, it will be the
largest one-time firing of full-time Microsoft
employees in the company's history.

"Racketeering Activity within the Arizona

Attorney General’s Office and Prison System"

Anant Kumar Tripati

Employees of the Arizona Attorney General, Arizona Department Of Administration, and the Arizona Prison system violate the federal obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence statutes, 18 U.S.C. 1503 and 1512 through what I call the ADOC enterprise. They “fabricate documents so as to defeat cases brought by prisoners, destroy documents and withhold documents.” I have posted some of this information on my website http://www.corruptarizonacourts.com.

[Disclaimer: This article is by no means intended to create, promote, recruit or participate in any security threat group, environmental, social or political movement and is purely for the purposes of conveying my situation here at Oregon State Penitentiary to the general public as is permissible under Oregon and US law.]

On June 13, 2003 my cell was rushed by four guards. I was immediately placed in handcuffs and taken to the hole. My offense: I had written a letter to the Earth First! Journal . This ‘offense’ had been under investigation for 3 weeks as part of a greater confidential investigation of me, I am unsure if this is a ODOC [Ed-Oregon Department of Corrections] investigation or a criminal investigation. However, based on the following, I believe it is an investigation into my ‘alleged’ role in the Earth Liberation Front.

Paul Chatterton reports from the first anniversary of the killing of 2 piqueteros at Avallaneda, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

On 26th June 2002, Dario Santillan and Maxi Kostekiwere were murdered by the Argentinian police. They were amongst the 4000 other piqueteros -– the unemployed workers of Argentina -- who blocked and demonstrated on the Pueyrredon Bridge in Avallaneda on the southern edge of Buenos Aires demanding food and work and an end to political corruption. Around midday, over 400armed police officers advanced in two columns towards the bridge. What exactly happened next is still subject to much debate. However, Maxi was shot and mortally wounded as he ran for cover towards a nearby train station, where shortly after he died. Dario was determined to stay with his dying friend, one hand grapsing Maxi´s, the other outstretched towards the police who aimed at him. Ordered to leave, Dario ran towards the exit where he was shot.

A year later, 26th June 2003. 40,000 people gather on the bridge at Avallaneda for the anniversary of the massacre and again block the major arterial route intothe city. Maxi and Dario, both 23 years old piqueteros with the Movimiento TrabajadoresDesocupados (MTD) Anibal Veron, were the first victims of the new Argentinian regime after the popular rebellion of December 2001. Dario and Maxi were heros, brothers, friends, companeros and workers. The demo was a show of strength and defiance of great importance in the face of ongoing state repression and an economic crisis which isn´t letting up for the unemployed, who number 50% of the people. A dizzying array of groups –- piqueteros, desocupados, artists, students, community assemblies, independent media –- were present on the anniversary: the Coordinadora deTrabajabores Desocupados Anibal Veron (CTD) which coordinates several MTD's, or unemployed irregulars, Movimiento Territorial Liberación (MTL), MovimientoTeresa Rodríguez (MTR), Polo Obrero, CoordinadoraUnidad Barrial (CUBA), Movimiento sin Trabajo (MST), Frente Trabajadores Combativos (MTC) and Movimiento Independiente de Jubilados y Desocupados (MIJD) all joined in.
