The Separation

Radically Separating Ourselves From The World Of
Separation:

Opposed to the spectacle, to capitalism, and to the
state.
This group will be founded upon the basic principles
of anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalism. A complete
founding document will be written collectively once we
have established ourselves. If a member dissents from
these core principles; he/she will be obligated to
resign from the group due to a conflict of interest.
An obligation to resign will never be moral or
absolute.

Situationist theory does not represent us in our full.
Rather, we are familiar with it, agree with aspects of
it, and take none of it as absolute dogmas. We are
here because history has created us. We are history,
and are not merely repeating it. We see ourselves in
history as applying ideas that have come before us to
the dissolution of the current state of things, once
and for all. We are not a party, nor will we ever
become one. A party stands to recognize the current
society as legitimate, and we do not recognize it as
such.

We are distinguishable in our absolute distaste for
the totality of this society, and our revolutionary
desire to change society in its totality. We do not
theorize - we act.

5th International Social Theory Consortium

Toronto, York University, June 6th to June 9th 2004

Call for Papers and Panel Discussions

The purpose of the International Social Theory Consortium and its annual
conference is to organize the International Social Theory community and to
provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange on problems in
contemporary social theory broadly conceived. The conference will be several
days long, and papers are welcomed from scholars, faculty, and graduate
students who work in any of the many areas of social theory. In addition, the
2004 conference will host a day long workshop on the theme of discord. Possible
areas of exploration for the workshop are: discord as a disenchantment of
conflict, discord as a deepening of disagreement, and discord as a promise of
dissonance. We are particularly interested in discord in social thought as well
as in a critical examination of the artifacts of discord. Conference organizers
invite submission of 150 word abstracts for papers intended for the discord
workshop. We also invite submission of abstracts for papers and proposals for
panels for the general conference.

Tintin at the Barricades

The classic story of Tintin as a working class revolutionary in London's 1980s is now available online in both french and english. Therein is recounted the epic tale of a fight against gentrification that escalates in coordination with strikes and neighbourhood committees and flourishes in fullblow insurrection.

Herge, Tintin's creator, had political connections of a somewhat different complexion. In 1930 he drew the cover of a political pamphlet by Leon Degrelle, who formed the Belgian fascist party "Rex" a couple of years later.

The 2003 Visible Evidence Conference is the eleventh in a series of
major international and interdisciplinary conferences on the role of
film and video as witness and voice of social reality.

The conference
encompasses a wide range of cultural, political, social, historical,
ethnographic and pedagogical questions and welcomes perspectives from
such fields (in addition to film studies) as anthropology,
architecture, art history, ethnic studies, ethnography, gay and lesbian
studies, history, journalism, law, medicine, political science,
psycho-social studies, sociology, urban studies and women's studies.

August 6–10 United for Peace and Justice Days of Action

TAKE ACTION ON AUGUST 6-10, 2003, 100 DAYS AFTER BUSH DECLARED THE WAR
ON IRAQ OFFICIALLY OVER

FOLLOW UP: AUGUST 27 GRASSROOTS CONGRESSIONAL ACTION DAY

On May 1, 2003 President Bush, in a televised speech from an aircraft
carrier, announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq. More
than two months later, Iraqi civilians and U.S. G.I.’s are being
killed every single day as our military tries to force an unpopular
occupation on the Iraqi people -– most likely, 6,000 to 8,000 Iraqi
civilians have been killed, as well as over 230 American soldiers.

"Polymedia Lab at World Summit on the
Information Society

December 8-13, 2003, Geneva, Switzerland

Information increasingly represents the ground on which authority is based
and on which struggles are being fought out. Intellectual Property is
becoming a major means of control, and the media-led battles for the
thoughts and the consent of people are playing a central role in global
politics -- once again proven by the tales on weapons of mass destruction
before the Iraq war.

As an intervention into the reorganisation of power, communication and
information, we propose a media lab during the World Summit on the
Information Society (WSIS).

Stephen Cataldo writes "SpaceShare is a new environmental partnership. We've developed a set of web sites for rideshares and hotel accommodation matching for events & conferences.

What we're doing: we're looking for activist and cultural events that should have rideshares, and setting up sites for them (usually at no cost.) Let us know if you're setting up an event!

What we want to do: This project was started by two people. We've protyped it, beta-tested it, run it for a few events. Now, we want to find others to start an activist organization, where we can be the tech-team but others will help us make the contacts to get the sites into widespread use.

Anyone interested?
