New Dramatists presents

A Discussion with Dr. Benjamin R. Barber, author of Jihad vs McWorld

moderated by Gabrielle Schafer of Thieves Theater

Wednesday, Nov 28 7:00 PM

New Dramatists 424 West 44th, NYC

Space is limited

Reservations Required: (212) 757-6960

On Monday, September 25, about 75 playwrights gathered at New Dramatists to
share thoughts about the events of September 11. Although we were only able to
scratch the surface, many found the community forum to be a helpful means of
grappling with the scope of the tragedy and a good jumping-off point for
further conversation and action. Following the discussion, there was a
strong desire to gain a greater understanding of the political, historical
and economic circumstances surrounding the current events.

Come Join the Astor Place Whirl-Mart!

On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 12-1 pm, there will be a Whirl-Mart
event at the Astor Place K-Mart at Lafayette and St. Marks
(pre-whirl meeting in front of the store @ 11:45).
Whirl-Mart is a monthly ritual which involves participants
meeting at a given superstore and proceeding to push empty
shopping carts in silence throughout the store for an hour.
It is at once an act of performance, protest and
meditation....and YOU are invited!!! for more information,
visit: http://www.breathingplanet.net

here is the straight text from the flyer:

What is Whirl-mart?

Whirl-Mart is an anti-shopping ritual during which
a local breathingplanet troupe gathers and silently
pushes empty shopping carts through the aisles
of a local superstore. The ritual takes place on the
first Sunday of every month at 12 pm and lasts for
approximately one hour. It is at once a meditative and
energizing experience that blurs the boundaries
between action and audience.

Call for an Anti-Capitlaist Convergence Against the World Economic Forum in New York City (January 31ÑFebruary 4)

Join Us as New Yorkers Strike Back Against Corporate Terror

For years now, the CEOs of major corporations, hundreds
of top international government officials and just plain rich
people -- from Bill Gates to Bill Clinton -- have been meeting every
year in Davos, Switzerland. This is where the real rulers of the
world give the politicians their marching orders. This is where
the schemes that lead to atrocities like GATT and the WTO are
actually hatched. And this year, the dining club for the world
ruling class will be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Midtown
Manhattan.

The WEF is moving here because they were effectively chased out
of Switzerland by a concerted campaign of direct action. They
think that here in New York we're shell-shocked, punch-drunk, and
maybe we are but -- whaddya fuckin' kiddin' me?

Anonymous Comrade writes: "Peter Fend, artist and principal in the Ocean Earth Construction Development group, makes a special presentation on the current situation this Saturday, October 13 at 4 p.m., in the auditorium at “From the Ashes,” an art exhibit at the Cuando space entrance at 9 Second Ave., near the corner of Houston Street.

For years Peter Fend has planned the reimagining of the world based on watersheds and the generation of power from the sea. The present organization of nation states answers to the needs of the oil industry.

“From the Ashes” exhibition opens on this day, from 4 p.m.until 10 with over 75 visual artists in all media, and a full schedule of performances and music. Exhibit hours: 2 to 6pm - Fridays thru Sundays.

Peter Fend is presented by MWF Video, artists and independents video for sale at http://www.brickhaus.com/amoore. MWF also presents Lightwheels electric bicycles in the “911” exhibit curated by Frank Shifreen. “No Cars No War.”"

francisco rojas of Genoa Resistance writes: "Why October 20th?

Three months after the police violence in Genoa it is more and more clear what the policies of the police and intelligence services are towards dissent and towards minorities and migrants. While these policies started well before the July g8 Summit in Genoa, the implications have been more and more elaborated in Genoa, and accelerated in the aftermath of the attacks in the US.

Minorities are being harassed and terrorized all over the West. Migrants are being rounded up in mass and deported as ‘threats to society’. Draconian laws are being introduced everywhere under the cover of ‘anti-terrorist’ measures which will significantly restrict civil liberties and limit the rights to dissent and protest.

Ben Trombone writes: "The Hungry March Band, Brooklyn's waterfront weirdo street band, will be participating in a Radical Puppetry Festival in Glover, Vermont at the end of August. Though this event is put on by a bunch of Bread and Puppet alumni, it will be a separate event altogether, with workshops, discussions, performances, and no doubt plenty of improvisatory merry-making around the role of radical street theater in political action."

Anonymous Comrade writes: "This Saturday, July 28th supporters of Charas El Bohio will rally at Union Square beginning 12:00 noon to support this under-siege community cultural institution. Auctioned off by the city (read ratface gooliani) this is a major effort just before the July 31st eviction deadline.

Also, one new arrest was made and a second individual is being questioned regarding the murder of Armando Perez, beloved Charas co-founder and lower east side activist. Four individuals who were being held by police previously in connection with the murder were released.
