Penguin Day, March 28, 2004
The first-ever Penguin Day on March 28, 2004 brings together free
and open source software (F/OSS) developers and non-profit technology
staff
for a day of learning and conversation.
Penguin Day convenes stakeholders in the development and adoption
of F/OSS for non-profits to frankly address the
range of challenges in scaling capacity, as well as celebrate strengths
and successes of open source in the nonprofit sector.Penguin Day 2004 will:
- build new and enhanced relationships between key constituencies
in the open source and nonprofit communities;
- be a venue
for earning and information sharing about development processes
and nonprofit software needs;
- help participants develop a
clearer understanding of where there are gaps and opportunities;
- challenge developers to provide flexible and appropriate open
source solutions for non-profit mission-critical
applications;
- empower non-profit users and support providers
to better communicate their needs and serve as active partners
in the development and
maturation of open source technology for nonprofits;
- result in increased energy and passion to fuel ongoing collaboration.
Participants will leave with concrete next steps
for collaborations, visions, and technologies that will usher the
nonprofit sector into more effective and appropriate adoption of
open source software.
Penguin
Day was developed in close collaboration and partnership with the
following organizations: Aspiration, the Nonprofit
Open Source Initiative (NOSI), the LINC
Project of the Welfare Law Center,
and the Advocacy Project
