In the age of McCarthy and the Beat poets, a controversial African-American artist, Archer Aymes, became an overnight sensation for his first book, Mother and Son. Ten years later he was arrested for manslaughter at a protest gone wrong and found dead in his prison cell of an apparent suicide. Tonight, a young artist has invited five panelists--a talk show host, a filmmaker, a jazz musician, a literary critic, and a performance artist, each of whom knew Aymes--to unearth the meaning of Aymes' legacy from the mysteries of his life. Borrowing from Plato's dialogues on Socrates, TALK is a fierce and theatrical discourse on art, identity, and the challenge of creation in an age of the marketplace.
