Venezuela Solidarity Day Film Festival
Larkspur, California, Dec. 2, 2005
On Friday, December 2, the anniversary of the Monroe Doctrine, the Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas will host an evening of solidarity with the people of Venezuela. Three recently produced documentaries will acquaint viewers with Venezuela's remarkable developments in literacy, health care, food and nutrition programs, and land reform. The Venezuela Film Festival will open its doors at 6:00 PM at The Redwoods Presbyterian Church, 110 Magnolia Avenue, Larkspur. To quell dinner hour hunger pangs, the snack bar will serve pizza-by-the-slice, popcorn, coffee, tea and juice.
Showing at 6:15 will be "Venezuela Bolivariana: People & Struggle of the Fourth World War," covering the period from the 1989 "Caracazo" to the April 2002 coup against Chavez and beyond. At 7:45 will be "Talking of Power," which offers a glimpse at new ways of re-making the world and women's role at the heart of it.
The 9:00 finale will feature "Enter The Oil Workers." In a series of unique interviews, oil workers — women and men — tell how and why they saved their industry from a CIA-backed coup, how they see their struggle in relation to other working class people in the world, and how they are organizing with the community and the military to "put the oil industry at the service of the people."
Eva Golinger's book "The Chavez Code: Cracking US Intervention in Venezuela" will be available for sale, as well as DVDs of her September 5, 2005, presentation at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists.
