"The Chavez Code" Author to Speak in Marin

Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas writes:

"Venezuelan Author to Speak in Marin"

Sept. 3, 2005

Eva Golinger will be the guest speaker at the annual fundraising dinner sponsored by Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas, Saturday, September 3.
A Venezuelan-American attorney, Ms.Golinger specializes in international human rights and immigration law. In October 2004 she obtained top secret documents, declassified under the Freedom of Information Act, that demonstrate the U.S. government’s prior knowledge of and complicity in the April 2002 coup d’etat against President Chavez. The Chavez Code: Cracking U.S. Intervention in Venezuela, Golinger’s first book, is the culmination of her investigation, which brought to light millions of dollars the U.S. government invested in financing anti-Chavez groups. Greg Palast, author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, says this book shows “…Venezuela as the victim of a subterranean cold war against the new progressive wave in Latin America. With the American public distracted by Iraq, the real target of Bush’s wrath is in…the oil-rich nation that controls the swing vote in OPEC…this is the political survival guide to the land of the next oil war.”

The MITF dinner will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin, 340 Channing Way, San Rafael. Jon Fromer, singer and guitarist will provide music. Cost of the program, which includes dinner, no-host bar and silent auction, is $35–$50 per person. For more information and reservations, please call 415/924-3227.
