Steal Christmas! 12/15 at St. Mark's Church

CadmusOnez writes A Holiday Appeal From Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping...

I know for sure that GOD IS THE ABSENCE OF GENTRIFICATION. Yes I'm looking for the spark of light called the winter solstice to actualize our community center. I'm talking about that spark of light that is usually pawned off on the wrong God, and made safely apolitical. The most famous representation of the sunlight that starts growing again during the winter of discontent is Jesus -- but we steal him back, because JESUS WAS NEVER A CHRISTIAN! Amen?

We need to STEAL THIS CHRISTMAS so that we can reverence the question that we are all asking. What Now? That question is the beginning of getting more light on the subject. What do Peace people do now? By the summer we'll be in much better shape, HAVE FAITH. Maybe we'll be able to shout in the street again.

What we don't want to have happen is lose something irretrievably important while we're massaging those few seconds of light that are added each day. Some things must be done in the dark and the cold. Defending Old PS 64, longtime home of Charas-El Bohio Community Center, is something that we will probably have to do on both the shortest and longest days of the year.

Right now, developer Gregg Singer has his Building Permit and is meeting in back rooms with various pliant politicians. To them, we have not yet crossed over from the inevitable protesters, which Starbucks has called in their internal memos "Pushback," to actual community citizens resisting colonization.

Please come sing and shout and Steal Christmas: Wednesday at St. Mark's, 10th St and 2nd Ave at 8PM. $10, no one turned away. Reservations: michael@revbilly.com or call 917-825-3562.
