"Fierce" Rebellion and Ball
New York City, Oct. 16, 2004
FIERCE will take it to the streets again as we move
forward with our Save Our Space campaign — our
struggle to reclaim the West Village from the hands of
wealthy residents, business owners, and the police
that protect their interests. Our demands remain
consistent: an end to the 1am curfew of the Hudson
River Park, bring back a queer youth drop in center to
the West Village, and an end to “Operation Westside”
(the newest 6th precinct operation to criminalize and
target trans women of color perceived as sex workers)
and a reprioritization of public funds for policing to
social services like housing, healthcare, and
employment opportunities for our specifically for our
community.
4:00pm @ SHERIDAN SQUARE (near 7th ave & Christopher
St.) — awards ceremony (press conference) for the 6th
precinct.
On the 35th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion
where transgender and queer people of color (many of
them young) fought back against police brutality and
ignited the radical movement for LGBTST liberation and
justice — OUR COMMUNITIES STILL FIGHT POLICE
BRUTALITY. We will award the 6th precinct with 35
years and counting of racial and gender profiling and
harassment of sex workers, among other awards.
5:00pm March from Sheridan Square down Christopher St
to PIER 45
A not-so-typical funeral procession where we’ll ask
folks to dress in black as we carry coffins that
signify death of public space for transgender and
queer youth of color. We remember the past years where
the village was more open to trans and queer youth of
color — a place where we’ve have historically built
our community. We will chant, sing, and dance as we
demand the right to safe public space that serves ALL
THE PEOPLE.
TAKE A BREAK AND JOIN US FOR....

FIERCE! is a community organizing project for
Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit,
Queer, and Questioning (TLGBTSQQ) youth of color in
New York City. We are dedicated to exploring and
building power in our communities through a mix of
leadership development, artistic and cultural
activism, political education, and campaign
development while taking care of ourselves and each
other. We take on the institutions that perpetuate
transphobia, homophobia, racism, ethnic conflict,
gender bias, economic injustice, ageism, and the
spread of HIV, STIs, STDs, and other mental and
physical health crises — that make daily survival a
terrifying challenge for many TLGBTSQQ youth. FIERCE
organizes against the injustices of the criminal
"justice" system, housing, employment, education, and
healthcare systems. We believe in ethic of organizing
by us, for us. Now that's FIERCE!
