Taylor Peck
SLAM, an activist group that has dominated Hunter College student government for eight years, was defeated last week in a school wide election by the newly formed party, Hunter United. The party aims to represent the entire student body and refrain from participating in political activism that offends certain ethnic/religious groups at the college.With 2/3 of the vote Hunter United landed a decisive victory in a week that was capped by political fireworks. Eija Ayravainen, Vice President for Student affairs and Dean of Students at Hunter says that “It was the largest turnout in over 15 years, 40% higher than last year and 150% higher than the average of the last four years.”
