About the LEFT INDEX
The LEFT INDEX is a complete guide to the diverse literature of the
Left dating back to 1982 when the first issue of the print version of
the index was published. Recently, coverage of significant historical
literature back through the 1800's has been added.
Primary emphasis is given to covering literature of the Left focusing
on political, economic, social and culturally engaged scholarship
inside and outside academia. A secondary emphasis is on significant
but little known sources of news and ideas. This combination of
sources provides the most complete exposure to the media of the
Left.
Other topics covered by literature indexed in the LEFT INDEX include
the labor movement, ecology & environment, race & ethnicity, social
& cultural theory, sociology, art & aesthetics, philosophy, history,
education, law, and globalization.
Unique to the LEFT INDEX is regular coverage of over 212 core
periodicals and other sources. Over 700 journals are referenced in
the entire database for left thinking scholarship and research.
***Access to over 80 important electronic and paper journals never
before indexed in either the Left Index or Alternative Press Index.
Another 70 core publications are currently under review for inclusion
to expand coverage to valuable scholarship and perspectives from
all regions of the world.
***Book Review records including full bibliographic details of the
book and the ISBN of the most recent edition available.
***Summaries of over 250 quality web sites directly accessible from
active URL links provided within the database record.
***Full-text search-and-retrieval of over 8,700 selected and important
electronic documents freely available on the web; URLs are available
to enable direct access to the full-text of these informative
