(The piece was written by Dennis G. Fitzgerald, author of "The Informant Law Deskbook"; he is a retired U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent, former Miami Police Department Narcotics Sergeant and an NACDL member who provides consulting services for the defense bar.)
Also available on-line is the U.S. Department of Justice Guidelines Regarding the Use of Confidential Informants."
