Stop the Pentagon Plan to Invade our Privacy!
In the past few days, press reports have revealed that a little-known Defense Department office has begun developing a computer system that would provide officials with the ability to snoop into all aspects of our private lives without a search warrant or proof of criminal wrongdoing. The Pentagon's new Office of Information Awareness is building a system called ìTotal Information Awarenessî that would effectively provide government officials with immediate access to our personal information: all of our communications (phone calls, emails and web searches), financial records, purchases, prescriptions, school records, medical records and travel history. Under this program, our entire lives would be catalogued and available to government officials.
We have a real opportunity to stop this plan's overwhelming invasion of privacy before it is goes any further. To learn more about this initiative and what you can do to defend your right to privacy, please click here:
Now More Than Ever
As an ACLU online activist, you know better than most that government over-reaching in the name of anti-terrorism will only accelerate as both Houses of Congress and the Administration close ranks.
And leaders of the Religious Right are now convinced that their agenda will get enacted next year in Congress. We are in for the fights of our lives on women's reproductive rights, prayer in schools and other church-state issues, privacy and other bedrock civil liberties issues.
Now more than ever, a strong membership is our most powerful tool. That is why we need everyone who cares about protecting freedom to join us by becoming card-carrying members of the ACLU.
If you are not already an ACLU member, please join today by clicking below:
If you are already a member, thank you! Your support has never been more valuable.
You can help us even more by agreeing to forward this message to friends, family and colleagues who might share your belief that we must protect the freedoms guaranteed to each and every person in America by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
