Deadline of 10/20/10 for Video Submissions on "Play" to Blockaded Guggenheim Show Sandra Skurvida, for Specify Others

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am writing to inform you about the call for video entries in response to the Guggenheim's and YouTube's Play biennial, which will comprise an online database entitled SanctionedArray, to be launched at WHITE BOX in New York City on October 25th and 26th. The deadline for submissions is October 20th.

Artist submissions to Play are limited by OFAC sanctions (http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/) — citizens or residents of Belarus, Cote d'Ivoire, Congo, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Myanmar/Burma, and Zimbabwe are not eligible to submit their work. We maintain that the application of OFAC sanctions to virtual transmissions of video art perpetuates the conditions that led to the imposition of these sanctions; those who wish to protest the continuity of such restrictions — artists of any origin, including those from the sanctioned countries — are invited to submit their work to SanctionedArray.

I would like to invite you to take part in this project - if you are a video maker, please consider submitting your work; or you may serve as one of the jurors who will define current criteria for online video art, by viewing and rating 25 submissions online (please contact me if you would like to do that); and by all means, please spread the word, and please join us at the reception and roundtable at WHITE BOX on October 26, 6-10 pm (roundtable at 7 pm).

All the best,
