ACEHNESE CULTURAL FESTIVAL
in memoriam for murdered human rights activist Jafar Siddiq Hamzah
The New School University in conjunction with the International Forum for Aceh will present an Acehnese Cultural Festival, including an exhibition and a Discussion of Culture and Conflict in Aceh. The Festival Theme: "THE JOURNEY TO ACEH"

At Tishman Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street,
The New School University, New York CityAceh, located in the northern part of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, has a divergence of intesting cultures, particularly in dance performance. Today dances are mostly performed at special government functions, but in many areas local dancing traditions and groups carry on the heritage. The overall goal is to introduce the Acehnese culture to the international community, because cultural values are very important for Acehnese. Through the cultural approach we hope to reach and build a network of solidarity for peace in Aceh.
Some of the most popular dances and culture to be performed in this event are:
a. Ranub Lampuan Dance
b. Gedumbak Dance
c. Rabbani Dance
d. Saman Dance
e. Seudati Dance
f. Silat Aceh is the Acehnese martial art
g. Musik Serune Kale
h. Rapai Geleng Dance
i. Fashion Show (Acehnese Traditional Costumes)
j. Meuseukat a heavily Arabic influenced dance
k. Likok Pulo Dance
l. Manyak Melikok
m. Mesare-sare Dance (Tarek Pukat)
